Epistemic Curiosity

Game User Research Thesis

This thesis is a certification project for the DSAA Interactive Design (Bac+4). While I was a student at the GameLab ScienceXGame at Polytechnique, I leveraged this experience to explore the following question:

How can video games foster a scientist's attitude of curiosity?

Study subject

New approaches to scientific mediation are increasingly focused on interactive devices. By actively engaging with the content they manipulate, users become more invested in their learning.

Interactive systems, such as video games, offer a way to experience science hands-on. Instead of merely receiving information, users can practice scientific methods through action and experimentation.

Video games, in particular, can be designed to stimulate curiosity, enabling players to ask questions and seek answers through experimentation, much like a scientist.
